Executive Function Coaching
As special educators, child study team members, and case managers, our coaches have seen firsthand how challenging it can be for students with executive function (EF) difficulties to navigate school environments built with neurotypical learners in mind.
Moving from class to class, managing different teachers’ expectations, and keeping track of materials, deadlines, and routines during a fast-paced day can quickly become overwhelming. For many students, this leads to stress, discouragement, and a growing sense of frustration with school.
Through EF coaching, our goal is to help students clearly identify the executive function barriers they face and learn practical, personalized strategies to overcome them. We work with students to build confidence, strengthen self-advocacy skills, and experience meaningful academic and personal success.
Executive Function Coaching
What are Executive Function skills?
Executive Functioning is a set of cognitive skills that help people plan, stay organized, manage time, control emotions, and get things done. These skills develop over time and can be strengthened with practice.
What is Executive Function Coaching and how is it different than tutoring?
EF coaching helps students build the skills behind learning — the tools that make school manageable.
During EF coaching sessions, we work on things like:
Getting organized
Managing time
Breaking down assignments
Planning ahead
Starting tasks without procrastinating
Staying focused
Following through and turning in work
Instead of focusing on one subject area/class as in traditional tutoring, EF coaching teaches students how to learn, how to study, and how to manage school independently. These are life-long skills that support every class.
Who benefits from Executive Function Coaching?
Students who thrive on structured, personalized skill-building, including those with ADHD, autism, anxiety, learning disabilities, and executive function challenges.
We support learners in:
Upper Elementary School (grades 3-5)
Middle school
High school
Whether your child struggles with feeling overwhelmed, organization, procrastination, or follow-through, coaching helps bring clarity, structure, and confidence.
How does EF coaching work?
-
The initial meeting is an opportunity for us to learn more about your child. We will discuss their strengths, what they’re struggling with, and what transformation you would like to see occur while working with an executive functioning coach. This is an opportunity for us to share more about our process to support your goals, answer any questions you have, and collaboratively identify if we are a “right fit” for each other.

Once you decide that EF coaching is right for your child, you will review and sign our terms of service agreement outlining expectations of the EF coaching process.
There is a non-refundable registration fee of $200. This includes the development of an individualized student support plan, review of any pertinent documentation (IEPs, 504s, evaluation data, etc.) that you wish to share and initial consultation with other providers working with your child (teachers, case managers, therapists, tutors, etc.)
-
Each EF coaching session is approximately 60 minutes in length. During these sessions we will guide your child to overcome some of the most challenging problems in their academic lives. The following skills will be explicitly taught throughout sessions:
Planning
Organization
Self-advocacy
Initiation
Time management
Inhibition management
Visualizing outcomes
Evaluating priorities
Parent feedback will be provided following each session.
-
A Family Team Meeting is an opportunity for all of the key players on your child's "team" to meet and engage in a process celebrating the wins (however small), identifying adjusted or new goals, or assigning responsibility and a timeline for implementation.
Family Team Meetings usually occur every 4-6 weeks in place of a coaching session.
-
A minimum of 12 weeks of coaching sessions is recommended for students to learn and apply new skills with guidance; however some may require more time due to increasing demands on EF skills as they transition into higher grade levels.
When the student is ready to phase out, it is done incrementally to allow for more independent practice.
